Early Spring Lawn Tune-up

I hope everyone has spread out some crabgrass preventer. Usually late February - early March is the best time for that. If you haven't yet, that's OK. You can put it out now and it will still help control the crabgrass this spring. The tune-up part of this weeks tip involves a mower, a rake, a couple of bags and some elbow grease. The following is recommended only if you DID NOT overseed your lawn last fall. This time of year, it is a good idea to set your mower deck low and put the bag on it and then mow your lawn to cut the dead top off of the grass. After that, get out the rake (leaf or hardback) and scratch up all of the thatch that is stuck to the earth and put it in a bag for the trash. I know it is hard on the back but your lawn will appreciate it because the lawn treatment you spread out will do the best after this preparation. Now you are ready to spread some crabgrass preventer.
